TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
It took a little longer than the Patriots wanted, but UT Tyler softball captured the ASC Championship on Sunday afternoon. The Patriots entered the day needing one win over ETBU to win the championship. The Tigers forced a second championship game, after winning game one 4-2.
ETBU led the second and deciding championship game 4-1 in the 7th inning. UT Tyler's Shelby Shelton hit a two run single to cut the lead to 4-3. Lauren Robenalt then tied the game from third, after a wild pitch.
In extra innings, Whitney Burt scored the game winning run for the Patriots, who earn the ASC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. ETBU is also expected to receive a bid. The NCAA Regional field will be announced Monday morning.
