UT-Tyler softball wins again at ASC tournament

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Media Release from UT-Tyler

The UT Tyler softball team jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, and hung on, defeating Louisiana College 5-3 in game seven of the 2014 American Southwest Conference Softball Championship.

UT Tyler will now move on to game 11 and face East Texas Baptist for a chance to play in the championship game.

With two runners on in the first, sophomore Vanessa Carrizales tripled off the wall in right, scoring Raven Rodriguez and Lauren Robenalt.

UT Tyler (39-3) was not done there, as Jackie Mendez and Whitney Burt each added a RBI, making the score 4-0 Patriots.

LC's Chelsea Allen singled in a run in the top of the second, closing the gap to 4-1 UT Tyler.

The Wildcats made things even more interesting in the top of the fifth, as Sandra Ouchley's two-run single made the score 4-3 UT Tyler with two innings to play.

UT Tyler would add an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth on a Mendez sac-fly, giving the Patriots the 5-3 lead, which would be the final score.

Starter Kelsie Batten picked up her 26th win on the season, a new UT Tyler program record for wins in-a-season.

Freshman phenom Alaina Kissinger picked up the save in the game, her first of her career, facing seven batters and striking each one out.
