E. Texas man struck and killed by 18-wheeler after walking away from initial accident

CASS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas man is dead after he was struck by a semi-truck on Thursday morning.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 21-year-old Aaron Wade Richardson of Atlanta was traveling south on Highway 59 near a rest area between Atlanta and Linden when he crashed his 2006 Mercedes. Richardson's vehicle crossed the center median into the northbound lane, eventually leaving the roadway and crashing into a wooded area.

It is unknown what time this initial accident occurred, but Richardson left his home in Atlanta at 7:10 a.m.

Around 10 a.m., a 2006 Peterbilt semi-truck was traveling northbound near the area where Richardson crashed. According to the truck's driver, he saw what appeared to be someone walking in the grass towards the roadway. Richardson walked into the roadway and was hit by the truck.

Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:11 a.m.

DPS is investigating the incident.
