Good afternoon!

Here are some stories for you to check out on this lovely East Texas day:

1. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver banned LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life for racist comments he made on an audio recording made public this past weekend. Silver announced the ban effective immediately, along with a maximum fine of $2.5 million, during a news conference on Tuesday afternoon. Silver also said he would recommend a forced sale of the team, which Sterling has owned since 1981.

2. On Thursday last week, the Smith Co. Sheriff's Department responded to a call for help at a home on FM 2767. The caller said a 5 month old was unresponsive in the home. The baby was flown to Children's hospital in Dallas. The father of the child, Jarrod Deray Phillips, has been arrested for injury to a child.

3. A public hearing will take place this afternoon  regarding a possible new 70,000 acre water reservoir in East Texas that would only serve the DFW area. As you can imagine, there is some disagreement on each side of the issue. Here are the specific details.

4. An East Texas man was arrested early Tuesday morning on drug charges after police pulled him over while he was riding his bicycle and wearing women's clothing. Larry Lynn Wheeler is currently in the Kilgore Municipal jail.

5. An East Texas firefighter is recovering at a Shreveport hospital after he was seriously injured while battling a fire Monday morning.
Dakota Huddleston, a driver/engineer with the Texarkana, Texas Fire Department is listed in fair condition in the ICU at University Health in Shreveport, after a cinder block wall collapsed on him as he helped battle a blaze at a workshop at home in Doddridge, AR.

6. Southside Bank has announced a merger with OmniAmerican Bancorp, Inc., a move that will make Southside the ninth largest bank headquartered in Texas, with nearly $5 billion in assets.

7. The trial for the accused Tyler mall shooter, Ricky Neal, Jr., began today. Neal is charged with murder and aggravated assault in a 2013 incident that left a Chapel Hill man dead in the Broadway Square Mall's parking lot.
