Tyler Man Dies In Bizarre Shotgun Accident

A bizarre accident with a loaded shotgun takes the life of a Tyler city employee.

56 year-old Johnny Proctor was an evening supervisor with Tyler Transit. According to the Transit manager, Proctor was returning his great-grandfather's shotgun to his home in the 200 block of Thigpen early Sunday morning.

The gun needed attention by a gunsmith and was loaded as Proctor took it from his vehicle, but an umbrella handle snagged the trigger and the gun went off.

He was taken to ETMC where he died.

At Tyler Transit, co-workers are mourning a man they say was full of cheer every day.

"He had an unbelievable sense of humor and made really tough days seem like no problem at all," said Norman Schenck, General Manager.

No one else was hurt in the accident.
