TYLER, TX (KLTV) - East Texas American Red Cross crews are heading to Arkansas to help with damage from Sunday's storms.

Severe thunderstorms ripped through the central plains Sunday, producing tornadoes, large hail, and localized flooding to much of Arkansas. Crews are starting to assess the damage and are beginning the clean-up process as the threat for severe weather shifts to the east, into the Mississippi valley on Monday.

According to local Red Cross Executive Director Tammy Prater, the first crews will be leaving the American Red Cross Smith County Chapter mid-Monday, reporting to Little Rock, Arkansas.

"While there are more questions than answers as to what Mother Nature has left behind in Arkansas last night, one certainty is that the American Red Cross will be needed beyond their borders," Prater said.

The crew will leave from 320 E. Rieck Road in Tyler on Monday, and will travel to Arkansas with an unstocked feeding truck. The truck will be stocked with supplies upon their arrival in Arkansas.

Prater also said that additional volunteers and relief vehicles in North Texas are standing by for deployment through the coming days.
