Bride-to-be's clothes go up in flames while traveling along I-95

KINGSLAND, GA (WTOC) -

Your wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day of your life, but for one bride-to-be, the wedding week leading up to the big day did not exactly start off on the right foot.

Mason and Sarah were driving to Savannah from their home in Gainesville, FL, Thursday afternoon and as they headed north on I-95 near Kingsland, Mason, who was traveling behind Sarah with their dog, spotted smoke and then flames coming from the back of Sarah's Jeep.

Sarah was towing some luggage on a trailer attached to her Jeep when it all caught fire from the exhaust. All of the bride-to-be's clothing and most of her hand-made decorations for the reception went up in flames.

Fortunately, her wedding dress was in another vehicle with her parents and was not damaged, but the bride did suffer some burns while trying to save her things.

Kingsland Fire assisted and Effingham County Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie just happened to be driving by at the time and stopped to help out. Mason was a deputy with ECSO for five years, and McDuffie recognized that one of his former guys was in distress.

The couple will be getting married this Saturday in one of Savannah's beautiful downtown squares.
