TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
An East Texas bank teller has pleaded guilty to embezzling money for her personal use from a Longview bank.
Kerri Monroe Jones entered the plea in federal court in Tyler. In documents she admitted to embezzling $1,394,200 from the Capital One branch in Longview. Jones worked at that location as lead teller.
Jones admitted to embezzling the funds for personal use for thirteen years starting in April 2000 and lasting until September 2013.
Court records show Jones said she disguised the transactions by making unauthorized and fraudulent "cash in" and "cash out" entries in her teller funds.
The U.S. Attorney's Office has asked the court to approve asset forfeiture on the $1,394,200 Jones admitted to taking from the bank.
Capital One released a statement regarding the embezzlement from their Longview branch:
"We do not discuss specific employee matters," Julie Rakes with Capital One said. "However, we do not tolerate fraud of any kind and work closely with law enforcement to hold accountable those who commit fraud against the bank."
Jones awaits sentencing by a federal judge and could face up to thirty years in prison and a fine of up to $1,000,000.
