LINDALE, TX (KLTV) - Injured Lindale firefighter Joe Yeakley continues his long road to recovery, making progress at a Dallas hospital.

According to friends of the injured firefighter, Joe Yeakley was transferred out Parkland Memorial Hospital's Intensive Care Unit to Zale Lipshy Hospital in Dallas to begin rehabilitation. His family says this means he's making progress.

Joe Yeakley was leading his team of firefighters into a Lindale house fire in January when the building collapsed.

As it began to collapse, Yeakley was on the front end of the hose team. Two members of his team were able to get into a door jam to avoid being crushed. Yeakley couldn't get there, trapped by burning wood.

Firefighters quickly pulled Yeakley out, critically injured.

Yeakley had instructed many in his own department about safety and that may have saved others from being injured in the blaze.
