Railroads Hiring In East Texas

Resurgent railroad traffic is turning into more jobs in the Longview area. High gas prices have hampered overland trucking and air transport, and because of it railroads like Union Pacific are having record years, hauling over one-trillion tons and miles the past year. 35 trains per day pass through Longview, and the increase in business means jobs.

290 union pacific workers are in Longview, and 60 of those are new hires. The key to the growth is in volume, trains can move massive tonnage in each trip. And with expansion comes more jobs, the railways will be hiring more brakemen, switchers and even conductors. Union pacific spokesmen say they expect, barring oil prices coming down, another record year in moving freight, and more jobs locally. Bob Hallmark reporting.
