CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas mother of four was found dead in her driveway Sunday morning.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said the body of 27-year-old Kayla Nicole Thompson of Jacksonville was found in front of her home in the 1500 block of County Road 3201. Kayla's body was discovered by her mother who was going to the home to check on Kayla and her four children after relatives were unable to reach her by phone for several hours.

Kayla's neighbors told investigators they heard screams of help coming from the driveway. After seeing her body in the driveway, several of them called 911.

Relatives had been attempting to reach Kayla to let her know they had taken her husband, 34-year-old Cedric Dewayne Thompson, to a hospital in Kilgore for medical treatment. Cedric had called them earlier Sunday morning, saying he wanted to hurt himself. He was quickly transferred to a Longview hospital.

When deputies arrived at Kayla's residence, they found her body and notified investigators. Police then got an arrest warrant for Cedric Thompson. Investigators also obtained a search warrant for a vehicle Cedric was driving when he left the scene.

Cedric was taken into custody by a Cherokee County deputy and officers from the Longview Police Department around 2 p.m. on Sunday. He was transported to the Cherokee County Jail just before 6 p.m. and his bond was set at $1 million.

On Sunday evening, Cedric's vehicle was found at a residence south of Marshall on Farm to Market 31 in Harrison County. The vehicle was seized by authorities early Monday morning.

Kayla's children were found inside her residence physically unharmed. They were released into the custody of their grandparents and later interviewed by staff at the Crisis Center in Jacksonville.

Investigators have not released any details regarding the nature of Kayla's injuries or a possible motive in the case. Her body has been taken to Dallas for an autopsy.
