LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

East Texans honored every soldier who has served and all of those who were lost on Saturday.

Members of the Vietnam veterans association and VFW gathered for the ceremony at Lakeview cemetery in Longview for the 'Missing Man Muster.'

"My stepfather was a world war two veteran. we have to remember our servicemen for the service they provided for our country. We need to remember those who paid that ultimate sacrifice and did not come home and be fathers and grandfathers," says Lakeview director Bill Wright.

With military precision, at exactly 11:11 a.m., symbolic of the end of the first world war, a flag was placed on each veterans grave by volunteers.

"We owe the people out here a lot of gratitude, and I'm here to express mine," says Vietnam veteran Robert Sterrett.

"It's and honor to be here today to give tribute to fallen heroes and those that served," says Vietnam combat medic John Cooper of Jefferson.

For some, it is bestowing honors never bestowed to them.

"Coming back from Vietnam our mission is to make sure no one else comes back and gets the treatment we did," Sterrett says.

The slow hand salute was executed as taps was played.

"Every life is worth loving and remembering always , and the sacrifices that not only these men made but their families made," Wright says.

A reminder of the price of freedom.

"I thank God for their service and say say a small prayer for their family," Wright says.

The flags will remain on the veterans graves at Lakewood throughout the weekend.
