TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
Tyler Independent School District Gary Mooring's resignation is official.
The school board approved his resignation at a meeting tonight during regular board meeting.
Rev. Orenthia Mason, TISD board president, said "Your service cannot be touched by anyone that any of us have ever worked with. So we thank you so much."
Mooring said to those gathered at the meeting, "I just want to thank everybody. I'm going to value all of these relationships. I want you to know that Tyler is my home. This is where I'm retiring. And I'll be around. Superintendents never really go away, they're always around."
Mooring will continue to serve as TISD superintendent until June 30. He served as interim superintendent before being hired permanently in January 2013.
Tyler ISD says the job opening will be posted Monday, April 21 and will stay open until May 30.
