LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - When you plan something perfectly, it seems like anything that can go wrong will. That's life, and it's also an adage known as Murphy's Law, which some Longview students are learning all about through a campus tradtion.

Some of the brightest East Texas minds showed off their bizarre, and even comic, designs at the annual engineering effort, dedicated to building a better mousetrap. It was the Rube Goldberg competition at LeTourneau University in Longview; a test of ingenuity and creativity. Three teams competed in the annual  tribute to the most off-the-wall designs in engineering.

The tradition is a competition named after Rube Goldberg, because he was known for creating ridiculous machines to perform special tasks.

Each of the teams will be graded on their invention for their engineering class.
