A Kilgore man has been indicted for the murder of an East Texas teenager.

Coby Ray Hudgins, 22, was indicted for murder in a Gregg County court on Tuesday. Hudgins is accused in the shooting death of 17-year-old Kayla Williams.

The shooting occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on October 5, 2013 at a home in the 3000 block of Mustang Drive in Kilgore. When officers arrived at the residence, Williams was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Witnesses in the area identified Hudgins as the shooter. Police say he left the home shortly after the shooting, before officers arrived.

After leaving the home, Hudgins was involved in a crash on Farm to Market 2087. He was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated.

Following an investigation by Kilgore police, Hudgins was charged with murder. He was released from jail on October 11, 2013.
