PITTSBURG, TX (KLTV) - Many residents in one East Texas community believe a brief, but very destructive incident on Sunday afternoon was a tornado touching down.

It happened around 3:45 p.m., in the north Pittsburg area along Highway 271 near County Road 4132. Witnesses say without warning, violent winds whipped through the area.

"Well they called us and said we had a roof blown off, wasn't quite expecting this when we got here, it was kind of a big shock," says Parker's Building owner, Mark Parker.

Sign's were blown apart, buildings were mangled, metal was flung into elevated road signs.

"I didn't think it was going to be the store, I thought it was one of our storage buildings or something like that," Parker says.

It was quick but it was extremely hard hitting. Tearing a 500 yard path in only a few seconds.

Parkers Building, who ironically among other things, do roofing work, had the lid to their building torn away. "The sign says roofing. Now we don't have one. What can you do," says Parker.

At a local church, a truck was picked up and overturned.
"We left one of our vehicles here. Got a call about 4:30 p.m., that our Tahoe was upside down, how the storm left it," says Lakeda Monroe. Fortunately, no one was at any of the buildings at the time they were hit.

"Nothing we can do but try to patch it up for the night," Parker says.

There is no estimate on the damage in dollar figures. Officials are still awaiting confirmation if it was, in fact, a tornado.

Storm Tracker 7 Live Doppler Radar indicated a thunderstorm moving through Pittsburg, Texas around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
