We have put together a nice stretch of gorgeous weather across East Texas, but it looks like severe weather may return to the region on Sunday.

An upper level low currently spinning over the Pacific Ocean will move east over the weekend, combining with a strong cold front moving toward the Lone Star State. This low pressure system will be bringing plenty of moisture straight from the Pacific into the region.

Meanwhile, here in East Texas, we will be seeing several parameters coming together to allow the development of showers and thunderstorms on your Sunday.

The latest guidance continues to indicate the chance for thunderstorms to become severe Sunday afternoon and evening across the region. The Storm Prediction center has outlined all of East Texas under a “SLIGHT RISK” for severe weather.

Currently, all modes of severe weather look possible. This would include large hail, damaging winds, and spotty tornadoes. We’ll also pay close attention to any storms that may drop heavy rainfall. Some locations may be prone to some flash flooding, thanks to recent rainfall events.

Guidance continues to differ a bit in regards to the timing on Sunday’s event. Right now, it looks like the first half of Sunday should be mainly dry. Showers and storms will be a good bet Sunday afternoon and evening. I think the best time would be between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.

We have already started the 2014 spring severe weather season on an active note and it looks like that may continue Sunday. Now is the time to review your severe weather safety plan with family, so that you may be prepared in the event of severe weather Sunday.

Depend on the StormTracker Weather Team to keep you updated on the stormy weather potential through the weekend. We’ll let you know of any changes or updates to the forecast to help you plan your Sunday.
