PIERCE, NE (KTIV)- A group of high school students in northeast Nebraska had a prom they will never forget. What happened to them before they got to the dance has made them the latest social media sensation.
It's the dance catching headlines on social media. Twenty-two students came to the home of Andy White to take pictures before Pierce High School's prom.
"They decided to come and get a picture on a couple of the bridges here and they didn't opt for the more sturdy one, and they got 21 or 22 of them on this back one and it turned out to be a little too much weight," recalls White.
All that weight caused the group to take a dip in White's 4-foot deep pond behind his house.
"The first thing I thought when I got into the water was oh my gosh, everyone is going to be so mad at me. This is my fault 'cause I planned this and that made me super upset," says White's daughter, Alisha.
Minus a few scrapes and a ton of wet tuxes and dresses, the group made it out with no serious injuries. By the end of Saturday night, the group was the talk of the town. Then one member of the plunge party posted a picture of the incident on Twitter.
"And within two minutes I had 35 retweets from my regular followers. Then I took a nap to recuperate from prom. By two hours later, I had 3,000 retweets and now we are up to 40,000 retweets and favorites and we are still moving up," says Lane Rohrich.
Through all the new found fame, these students have learned what type of impact a single post on social media sites can have.
