Upshur Co. teen found dead in vehicle identified

DIANA, TX (KLTV) - The teenager found dead in his vehicle in rural Upshur County on Sunday night has now been identified.

The body of 17-year-old Jacob Johnson was discovered in a car parked off of Sego Lily Road in Diana. New Diana Independent School District said Johnson was a former student who was withdrawn from the district in October 2013.

The Upshur County Sheriff's Office said deputies received a call at 9:43 p.m. Sunday reporting a suspicious vehicle. When deputies arrives, Johnson was found inside the car dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Authorities announced Monday that his death is being investigated as a homicide.

Upshur County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Lyle Potter said the 17-year-old white male died under suspicious circumstances. His body has been sent for an autopsy.

The circumstances surrounding how the boy's body was found are unknown at this time.

The sheriff's office said the investigation into Johnson's death is ongoing and that more information will be released as it is learned.
