LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin Police officers arrested a 35-year old man for felony criminal mischief on Monday after he allegedly slammed on his brakes and caused a motorist to slam into the back of his Cadillac Escalade, causing an estimated $6,000 worth of damage to the other vehicle.

Kory Nicholas Otteson, 35, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a state-jail felony charge of criminal mischief between $1,500 and $20,000. No bail has been set at this time.

According to the arrest affidavit, the incident in question occurred on April 6. An LPD officer spoke to the complainant about damage that occurred to his vehicle because of a "deliberate act." The man said he was driving down Sunset Street in a white 2004 Dodge pickup when an black Cadillac Escalade pulled in front of him.

The driver of the Escalade, who was later identified as Otteson slammed on his brakes and came to a sudden stop, causing the Dodge pickup to crash into the rear of it. The complainant said there wasn't enough reaction time to allow him to avoid the accident.

While on the scene, the officer noticed extensive damage to the front end of the complainant's pickup. The affidavit stated that the cost of repairs to the truck have been estimated at $6,000 or more.

Investigating further, the officer talked to three different witnesses. Two of them were sitting in their vehicle talking when the accident occurred. They said they saw the driver of the Escalade intentionally slam on his brakes, causing the Dodge pickup to slam into him.

In addition, the two witnesses told the LPD officer that they saw Otteson get out of his vehicles and make comments to the occupants of the pickup. They said he said something like, "I got you, Mexicans. You are going to pay me a lot of money for this."

Another witness told the LPD officer he was in front of his residence when he saw the driver of the Escalade slam on his brakes for a sudden stop, causing the accident.

The LPD officer also told the investigating detective that Otteson left the scene of the accident and went to his residence before he called law enforcement to report the "accident."
