Shreveport eatery Bistro To Go officially opened at the Pierre Bossier Mall Thursday, after winning bragging rights as the newest champion of Food Network's show, "Food Court Wars."
The restaurant was awarded the title on an episode that aired over the weekend.
"When they finally said we were the winner, it was like whew! It was just awesome," said owner JB Emery Bistro To Go, an eatery that prides itself on making food from scratch.
At the end of January, Emery was chosen to compete in the show filmed at Pierre Bossier mall. The restaurant's bread pudding is what Emery thinks helped him and friend Brandi Lee ultimately beat out a father-daughter team from Plain Dealing.
"It was pretty exciting," Emery said. "It was a little nerve wracking thinking about going on national television."
Winning the competition means that not only will the restaurant get some fame, it will also get a much bigger prize.
"It was one year free rent, which is pretty sizeable," Emery said. "It's not cheap to be a tenant in a mall."
Emery said the competition was well worth it.
"It was my dream all along to try to expand without going into debt," he said. "This is about as good as an opportunity as you'll get."
Emery said the restaurant's customers are excited about the news, including Nancy Mosely, a Bistro To Go regular.
"My reaction is, 'Well earned!' They are fantastic," Mosely said.
