Upshur Co. teen's death being investigated as homicide
DIANA, TX (KLTV) -
The death of an East Texas teenager is now under investigation after his body was discovered in Upshur County on Sunday night.
The Upshur County Sheriff's Office said deputies received a call at 9:43 p.m. reporting a suspicious vehicle off of Sego Lily Road in Diana. When deputies arrived, the teen was found inside the vehicle dead from an apparent gunshot wound. His death is being investigated as a homicide.
Upshur County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Lyle Potter said the 17-year-old white male died under suspicious circumstances. His body has been sent for an autopsy.
The circumstances surrounding how the boy's body was found are unknown at this time.
New Diana Independent School District confirmed that the teen is a former student. He was withdrawn from New Diana ISD in October 2013.
The teenager's identity has not yet been released.
