MLBPAA puts on free baseball clinic

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - It was a little cold out this morning, but that didn't stop a couple hundred East Texas youth baseball players from enhancing their skills. Especially since the teachers were former Major League greats.

The MLB Players Alumni Association is putting on a two day clinic in Longview to help teach baseball skills, drills and life lessons.

Some of the players in attendance include three time all star Jimmy Wynn who played for the Astros and Mount Pleasant resident Ernie McAnally who played for the Expos.

The former mlb players say its their pleasure to teach these kids how to play the game. "Giving back to the community what the community gave me for 15 years while I was in the major leagues, it makes me feel great to do things like that," Wynn said.

"Who knows, one of these kids might one day be a Major League baseball player and that's what we are trying to do." McAnally added," Its always fun to be around kids and their enthusiasm for baseball and it kind of regenerates the green grass, the gloves, the smell and everything."
