TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
A Tyler woman is making her way to McKinney, TX to supervise shelter operations for those affected by the severe weather Thursday.
Cheryl Thomas has been a volunteer with Red Cross for the past 20 years and says it's great to be an East Texan and travel around the country helping others.
"I'm not exactly sure how bad the situation is in North, Texas right," Thomas said. "It's hard to tell exactly what the needs are, but I'm going to make sure that the shelter has food and people are taken care of."
Thomas says she's helped with many hurricanes like Katrina. She also helped tornado survivors in Joplin.
"I also help locally around here in East Texas," Thomas said. "I help here locally taking care of clients when there's a fire. I provide shelter for them, and we provide food and clothing."
