JACKSON, MS (WLOX) -

The Mississippi Legislature honored former University of Southern Mississippi and NFL football star Ray Guy, who was recently elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Guy was given a plaque and presented with a resolution during a special ceremony held Tuesday, April 1 at the State Capitol in Jackson.

Guy was the first pure punter ever to be drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft. In 1973, the Oakland Raiders selected him with the 23rd overall pick.

Guy took a few moments to address the legislators and also posed for photos with members of the Legislature who are Southern Miss graduates. He currently serves as director of the University's M-Club/Community Relations.
