The winner and runner up of the 2014 Scale Back Alabama Team Name Contest have been announced.
The name "Waddlers to Modelers", from the East Alabama Medical Center team in Opelika, was the pick for the best team name. The first runner up was "Too Much to Twerk" from the Alabama Department of Revenue. The two names were chosen as the best from a field of more than 6,300 names.
"Waddlers to Modelers" is comprised of three human resource employees, Doug Underwood, Genia Odom, Kim Rogers and Lisa Briggs, who works at the café inside the hospital lobby. To date, the team has lost a collective 38 pounds by various methods. Mr. Underwood, an avid runner, began walking on his non-run days and added frequent calisthenics. Ms. Odom said she has increased her exercise to at least 150 minutes of cardio per week, and is drinking more water. Ms. Briggs trained for and participated in the Mud Manie 5K race. Mrs. Rogers lost 20 pounds by cutting way back on carbs, drinking more water and increasing her activity by walking more and playing outside with her kids.
The members of "Too Much to Twerk" included Kimberly Atkins, Shameka Cousette, Charlie Jenkins and Jennifer Williams. The team has employed several different techniques to lose weight, and as a result have lost a combined 27 pounds. Each member has a diet plan to fit their lifestyle, and also has a group workout at least once a week.
More than 2,300 votes were cast in the contest, and the members of team "Waddlers to Modelers" will receive $100 per person, and the members of "Too Much to Twerk" will receive $50 per person. A panel of six media judges selected the top ten names based on originality and "fun," and those names were then posted on the Scale Back Alabama website for a public vote.
