CPS: 2-month-old Hudson baby with severe head injuries to be placed with family friends

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

An Angelina County judge ordered the two-month-old baby girl who suffered a severe head injury on March 25 be placed in the custody of friends of the child's family Monday morning.

The child custody hearing was held in Judge Derek Flournoy's County-Court-at-Law No. 2 courtroom Monday morning.

Shari Pulliam, a spokeswoman for Child Protective Services, said that CPS will maintain temporary managing conservatorship of the child. She said after the baby girl is released from the hospital, she will be placed with the family friends while the CPS investigation is ongoing.

The Hudson Police Department is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the baby's severe head injury. Chief Jimmy Casper of the Hudson Police Department said that the baby's father and grandfather called 911 around 9 a.m. on the morning of March 25. They said that the baby was having trouble breathing and had even stopped breathing for a short period.

Casper said it was determined the baby had a small bleed on the brain and was taken by helicopter from Lufkin Memorial Hospital to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston Tuesday afternoon.

"We're investigating the causes and extent of the injuries," Casper said in a previous East Texas News story.
