Freedom Fighters: Jay Spraggins

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Jay Spraggins was 18 years old when he went into the Army in April of 1944. He spent his 19th birthday in a turret on the Zigfrield Line as the Battle of the Bulge raged.

Spraggins company was the first infantry to cross the Ludendorff Railway Bridge at Remaggin under heavy fire, leaving only 35 men out of the original 200. Spraggins was discharged from the Army with a Bronze Star for "Meritorious Service" in April of 1946.
