The threat for severe thunderstorms across portions of East Texas continues to grow for your Friday afternoon and evening.
A warm and unstable air mass exists across the region, warming temperatures into the low 80s.
The warmth and increasing moisture is acting as fuel across the region with a disturbance diving southeast toward East Texas. This disturbance is serving as a match to ignite storm development along the I-35 corridor to our west. The storms will continue to intensify and push toward East Texas through the evening hours.
The main threats are large hail, from quarter to ping pong sized. Damaging winds, in excess of 60 mph are also likely with these storms.
Severe thunderstorm watches will remain in effect until 7 PM for East Texas.
The severe weather threat should come to an end around the late evening hours Friday. Look for clearing conditions as we progress through the overnight period.
The good news is that the weekend forecast continues to look great with plenty of sunshine and highs in the low to mid 70s. Overnight lows this weekend will dip back down into the 40s.
