TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
If you flip through the pages of the March 31st issue of Sports Illustrated, you'll notice the ‘Faces in the Crowd’ section features a rising East Texas golfing star.Winning nearly 50 percent of her collegiate tournaments, don't be surprised if Laura Lindsey one day ends up on the cover.
"Our sports information director tweeted to me on Monday night, and said I was going to be in Sports Illustrated and I was like ok," UT Tyler sophomore star Lindsey said. "I freaked out and called my parents!
You would think for just a sophomore, being in SI is overwhelming, but see Lindsey won the Division III national championship as a freshman.“It’s really an honor to be in Sports Illustrated, but the national title tops that," Lindsey said. "Its hard to top a national title."
Shooting a tournament record 68, which included two eagles a few weeks ago at Jekyll Island is what put Laura in the magazine. She since just won her fourth consecutive tournament.
"Its just kind of been a whirlwind," Laura said. "You don’t really expect to win four in a row. Two in a row is awesome and then winning at Jekyll Island was amazing because it’s a huge field.” Head coach Grant Spencer added, "And then the way she did it is super exciting with two eagles in three holes which were holing out shots from the fairway."
As for the future, well Laura isn’t exactly sure. But she will try to go pro.
“I'm probably going to apply to be on the big break, and if I get can somewhere where I can play professionally that be awesome, but its really hard to do," Laura said.
Winning 8 out of 18 tournaments, it appears the Montgomery native is well on here way.
