SFA honors basketball team

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The town of Nacogdoches, Stephen F. Austin university, and its alumni have been celebrating the return of the men's basketball team all day.

It started at around 6:30 a.m. when the Jacks pulled up with numerous fans awaiting their arrival from San Diego. Then tonight, SFA held a pep rally to honor the teams historic season.

The Jacks lost to UCLA in the round of 32, but earned the programs first ever NCAA tournament win against VCU. The Jacks also became the first Southland conference team to go a perfect 18 and 0 in league play.

For senior Desmond Haymon, who is SFA's all time winningest player, its a ride he will never forget."My dad always told me son, if you want to be better than me, have people remember you and I feel like I will be remembered at SFA in a positive way," Haymon said.

"It was a blessing and there are lot of memories that I will never forget. As I continue to grow in life I will never forget SFA. It will always have a special place in my heart forever."

This years team has put SFA on the national map. Remember, all of this happened in Brad Underwood's first season as the head coach of the Jacks.
