ARLINGTON, TX (KLTV) - The Rangers have named Joakim Soria the closer for opening day and beyond ahead of former closer Neftali Feliz.
The intent heading into spring training was to have Feliz be the closer, but is struggling with command and velocity while coming off of surgery. Soria, who the Rangers acquired last season used to be the closer for the Kansas City Royals. Feliz is now reportedly fighting for a roster spot before opening day.
Meanwhile, Texas has announced that Tanner Scheppers has won a spot in the starting rotation.
