'John Doe' child predator suspect, believed to be in north Texas, arrested

OTTUMWA, IA - On Wednesday, the Ottumwa Police Department became involved in an investigation involving the sexual assault of a small child. During the investigation, Ottumwa police arrested Kraigen A. Grooms, 17, and charged him with second degree sex abuse.

According to police, because of the serious nature of the charges, Grooms is charged as an adult.

Second degree sex abuse is a Class B felony, punishable with up to 25 years imprisonment if convicted. Grooms is currently in custody with a $100,000 cash-only bond.

The United States Department of Homeland Security also participated in the investigation.

On Tuesday, authorities in north Texas asked the public's help to identify the suspect involved in a child pornography ring that was thought to be with his victim. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents investigating this case believed the suspect produced child pornography in which he photographed himself engaging in sexual contact with a black baby girl who is 12 to 18 months old.
