FC Dallas launches soccer club in Tyler

Tyler based soccer team Azzuri Soccer Club has signed an official agreement to become the newest FC Dallas affiliate.

"They're (the kids) excited about putting on that FC Dallas uniform and the dreams and aspirations of all the younger kids being able to play professionally and do that is huge," said FC Dallas East Texas Coach and Board Member Jeremey Bernard.

The affiliation will offer support and opportunity to area youth coaches and players.  It could also open doors for the elite soccer talent in East Texas.  Eleven of the programs former youth players went on to sign a pro contract.

"Our current left defender from FC Dallas is a youth academy product, Kellyn Acosta," said FC Dallas Director of Player Development. "So that is a tangible example of if your on the right path, doing the right things in the right talent pool, anything is possible."

Tyler is just the sixth area to form an affiliation with the MLS club.

"We are excited about the opportunity to work in partnership with Tyler and surrounding area coaches, players, and families," said FC Dallas Youth Affiliate Director Ben Waldrum.  "Our goal in East Texas is to continue to strengthen the bonds between local communities, youth clubs, and youth soccer associations in the overall goal of growing our sport by developing the leaders, coaches, and players in East Texas.  Our FC Dallas Youth Affiliate Program's foundation is to provide the opportunity to be closely connected to and involved with FC Dallas and FC Dallas Youth.  I am looking forward to building a lasting relationship between FC Dallas and the East Texas soccer community and want to be one of the first to welcome you to the FC Dallas family"

Stephen f. Austin head football coach Clint Conque paid a visit to the Rose City this afternoon. It's perfect timing to pump up the program, considering the Jacks are coming off a dramatic last second win over Incarnate Word. Put on by the alumni association, Conque was the featured speaker at a Lumberjack networking event. Coach Conque got to brag a little about SFA's first victory of the year. Not to mention that despite a rough non-conference, the Jacks are 1-0 in South...More >>
