The former home of U.S. Senator Ralph Yarborough is now open as the Chandler Museum and Visitor Center.
The Chandler Historical Society was formed in 2010 with the sole purpose of saving the Yarborough home and turning it into a museum. The house was moved from its original location behind the Chandler Post Office to McCain Park (all 180,000 pounds of it) with money earned from bake sales, luncheons and contributions.
Senator Yarborough was born and raised in the home. He was also sworn into the Senate in the house by his father, a judge. Yarborough, a political giant in his own right, was two cars behind President Kennedy when the President was assassinated in Dallas.
