A giant inflatable display, meant to raise awareness about colon cancer, is catching the eyes of East Texans.
An inflatable colon at the Glass Recreation Center in Tyler is not a joke. Doctors say colon cancer is a serious issue all over the world.
It is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States.
The inflatable display demonstrates the impact cancer can have on a colon.
Several East Texans at the event were given health screenings and learned what they can do to prevent colon cancer.
Doctors at the event say there is a high percentage of colon cancer in East Texas. They want the community to know it's never too early to get a screened.
"Over 50,000 people die of colon cancer every year, so a colonoscopy offers an opportunity to take out polyps so that the polyps cannot continue to grow and turn into cancer," says Doctor Bola Olusola, a G. I. specialist at UT Health Northeast.
