Damaging winds, large hail possible for portions of East Texas on Saturday

(KLTV) -

The end of the work week is ending on a warm note across East Texas. Temperatures will be soaring into the upper 60s Friday afternoon. We will see a mix of clouds and sun give way to more cloud cover during the late afternoon hours.

Friday night will give way to cloud cover increasing across the region. A few scattered showers will begin to work in from the south across deep East Texas. The majority of the rainfall will hold off until our Saturday. Overnight lows will drop into the mid 50s.

Saturday, a developing storm system to our west will begin to organize. The storm will be pulling in a good bit of warm and unstable air from the Gulf Of Mexico. The low pressure system will eject from the West and move toward Texas during the afternoon hours. This energy will combine with all of the unstable and warm air already in place and produce a good chance for showers and thunderstorms across East Texas Saturday afternoon and evening.

The instability along with the warm temperatures will help to create some strong to possibly severe thunderstorms across the region. The Storm Prediction Center has outlined all of East Texas under an elevated risk of seeing severe weather.

Currently, the main threats look to be damaging winds and large hail potential. The tornado and flood threat seems low, but does exist.

Although scattered showers and isolated thunder will be ongoing across the region during the first part of Saturday, the main time frame for strong to possibly severe thunderstorms in East Texas looks to be between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Saturday.
