A former Middle Tennessee State University student has lost her appeal for a new trial in the death of her roommate.

Shanterrica Madden is serving 29 years in prison after a conviction in the death of MTSU basketball player Tina Stewart back in 2011.

Madden's attorney tried to appeal the verdict, arguing that the judge in the case had been a Facebook friend of the MTSU basketball coach.

The state court of appeals ruled that wasn't reason enough to grant a new trial.
