Good afternoon, everyone!

Here are some stories for you to peruse as you wind down your afternoon:

1. James Calvert is in jail, awaiting trial for the murder of his wife Jelena Sriraman on Halloween of 2012. Because Calvert is defending himself at his trial, the court has provided him with a computer to prepare his case. But the capital murder defendant says the free computer is not good enough, and Melanie Torre was in the courtroom today as Calvert argued with anyone who would listen. She'll bring you the story on KLTV7 News at 6.

2. Recent citations to East Texas store clerks has some businesses voluntarily shutting down, but the problem seems to remain: synthetic marijuana, also called K2, among other names. Some are applauding the move to issue citations to those selling the product, but Bob Hallmark will tell you tonight at 6 that even law enforcement says it's a problem that will surface again.

3. The parents of George Zimmerman are suing comedienne Roseanne Barr over a tweet that they say caused emotional distress, invasion of privacy and a loss of the value of their home.

4. A 13-year-old boy is dead after an accidental shooting Wednesday afternoon in Rains County. Justice of the Peace Don Smith said the 13-year-old was at a friend's home on County Road 2130 when the incident took place. The teen died of a gunshot wound to the right side of his head.

5. On Monday, March 17, Whataburger customers at the Lindale restaurant (311 South Main Street) can show their support for local firefighter Joe Yeakley by enjoying their favorite menu items, and 50 percent of Whataburger's sales from 5 to 8 p.m. will be donated to the Joe Yeakley Relief Fund. Yeakley is the firefighter who was injured when a house he was inside fighting fire collapsed upon him.

6. Just one day after being cut by the Dallas Cowboys, DeMarcus Ware has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Denver Broncos. According to ESPN, Ware has reached an agreement with the Broncos on a three-year, $30 million contract.

7. A former East Texas police officer appeared in court on animal cruelty charges today. Terry Tawater and his ex-wife both appeared, as police say that at least 15 dogs were living in deplorable conditions on their property, and there were deceased dogs there, as well. The dogs will be handed over to the Anderson Co. Humane Society and they will be available for adoption. The judge said both Tawater and his ex-wife knew the issues with the dogs in their home but did nothing about it.

We will stream our news live on KLTV.com if you're not able to watch on tv today at 4, 5 and 6. Make sure to tune in for the best local news and weather every day! We're here for you.
