Police: Women arrested for resisting arrest, obstruction at traffic stop

KILGORE, TX (KLTV) - Two East Texas woman are behind bars after allegedly resisting arrest and obstructing justice at a traffic stop.

On Tuesday, Heather Nicole Thomas, 21, of Laird Hill and Brittnie Smith, 22, of Tyler were stopped by Kilgore police on Highway 135 for speeding. During the stop, police say Thomas became belligerent and started an altercation with the officer over an outstanding warrant.

Thomas resisted arrest while Smith tried to help her break free of the officer.

Smith is charged with interfering with police, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence. She was taken to Gregg County Jail and released on $25,000 bond.

Thomas is charged with resisting arrest and has been released from the Gregg County Jail after posting $10,000 bond.
