Five Gregg Co. inmates taken to hospital after sharing synthetic marijuana
LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -
Five inmates were taken to a local hospital after smoking a synthetic marijuana cigarette inside an East Texas jail.
The Gregg County Sheriff's Office said Monday that an inmate brought in the synthetic marijuana with him when he was booked into jail. The inmate, who authorities have not identified, was arrested by the Longview Police Department.
The synthetic marijuana was missed during the routine pat down performed when Longview police took him into custody. The cigarette was then missed by a Gregg County jailer who booked the inmate into jail.
Five inmates were able to share the synthetic marijuana cigarette inside the jail. One of them had a negative reaction to the substance, and a doctor ordered all five men be sent to a hospital.
Four of the men were treated and released during the same day. One was kept for treatment overnight and then released.
