Attention artists: ArtWalk deadline extended to March 14

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) -

East Texas artists still have some time to submit their work for the Downtown Tyler Arts coalition's third ArtWalk, which is scheduled for April 5. The new deadline is Friday, March 14.

"The original entry deadline was March 7," said Beverly Abell, department leader for the City of Tyler's Main Street department, "but in light of the recent ice storm and the delays it may have caused in gathering entry materials together, we have extended the entry deadline by one week."

From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 5, buildings in downtown Tyler will open their doors to artists and art patrons. Original artwork will be on display in a variety of buildings, and the artists will be on hand to visit with the public. In addition, there will be arts demonstrations, live music and other activities.

Once submitted, applications will be evaluated via a jury process by the ArtWalk organizing committee. Only original works of art are accepted for display at ArtWalk.

"We encourage artists to enter," Abell said. "ArtWalk is one of our most popular downtown events. The artist has the opportunity to have hundreds of people see their work in the space of a few short hours."

Those who want more information should go to www.DowntownTylerArts.com or call Gallery Main Street at (903) 593-6905.
