Lufkin woman helping Point family who lost two homes in house fires

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Lufkin woman is doing everything she can to help a Point, Texas family recover from two rental house fires that claimed the lives of their two dogs, and destroyed everything they owned.

Point, Texas is about 2 hours north of Lufkin.

Kris Hightower spent Saturday outside of Lufkin's Tractor Supply hoping to raise money for the Droz family through a rifle raffle sponsored by Custom Guns & Ammo and Lone Star 4H.

The rifle being raffled is a Duck Commander 22 with 500 rounds of Ammo. Hightower says she has known the father of that family, Lou, for years, and says the family is planning on moving back to Lufkin but, desperately needs help.

She says it is by the "grace of God," the family escaped the last fire.

"They just managed to get out and they haven't asked for anything and I just feel God leading me to do this for them," Hightower said.

Hightower says she isn't looking for just monetary donations, but clothes, furniture and anything else. She says right now, the mother of that family, Christi, is battling stage two Breast Cancer and just recently had an emergency double mastectomy. She also just recently had an adverse reaction to Chemo, Hightower says.

Lou and Christi have two children, Tricia, 14, and Louis, 13.

The raffle will last until April 27. You can contact Hightower at gr8lyblessedntx@gmail.com or at (936) 240-0545.
