TYLER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Authorities with the Tyler County Sheriff's Office have released the identity of and details surrounding a man injured in an officer-involved shooting Thursday night.

Danny Lee Sirmons, 18, is listed in stable condition at a Beaumont hospital.

According to a press release, a deputy was dispatched to a mobile home off of County Road 4375 when family members said Sirmons was shooting a gun through the walls of his own home.

According to family members, they were trying to speak with Sirmons but were met by gunshots which came through the walls of the mobile home. The deputy saw Sirmons leave the home with a long gun and the deputy asked him to drop it and speak with him but Sirmons refused, according to the release.

The release states Sirmons then fired at the deputy and a family member and narrowly missed both as the bullet went through the family home on the same property.

Taking cover, the deputy repeatedly asked Sirmons to drop the gun. Officers with the Tyler County Sheriff's Office, Woodville police and DPS arrived and Sirmons began firing more rounds at the officers, according to the release. He then began walking toward the officers with the gun raised and pointed at them and shouting threats, according to the release. He was then shot one time in the upper left torso.

EMS personnel already on standby arrived within minutes and were able to attend to Sirmons. He was listed in stable condition as of noon Friday.

As is the case for all officer-involved shootings, the Texas Rangers are investigating the case.
