Diboll Police officers arrested a 24-year-old woman Thursday for animal cruelty after they found a severely underfed dog that was also suffering from a bad case of mange at a residence in the 800 block of Denman Street.
The dog was in such poor health that animal control authorities wound up euthanizing it.
Casey Elaine Gauman, of Diboll, was arrested and charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals, which is a Class A misdemeanor. Gauman posted a bail amount of $1,500 and was released later Thursday.
According to the arrest affidavit, a Diboll Police officer responded to Gauman's residence to check on an open door and found the dog inside. The inside of the trailer "had the strong smell of filth, urine, and defecation." In addition, there was trash strewn all over the trailer.
Officers learned from the manager of the Diboll Mobile home Park that Gauman was the dog's owner. According to the affidavit, she had been seen with the dog in her car, in her yard, and while she was walking to her mailbox.
