Austin Elementary Teacher Recognized

The unique teaching techniques of an East Texan has earned him national recognition. Joel Enge, a 5th grade science and bilingual teacher at Austin Elementary in Tyler received one of the 100 national INC Corporation awards. One of his pioneering methods, a 'Real World' program, allows his bilingual students to develop skills for future job training and development. Enge says he was humbled and glad to work in the district. He said, "I'm just grateful for TISD and the opportunity God gave me to be a part of TISD and it's just an honor."

Joel Enge and Austin Elementary were presented a grant for $2,000 as part of the award. He said the school will use the money to teach kids about the importance of the community, helping the elderly with yard work and other needs.
