(RNN) – A 5-year-old recovering lymphoblastic leukemia patient who became Batkid for a day was cut from his arranged Oscar appearance at the last minute.

Last Sunday at the 2014 Oscars, Miles Scott was supposed to have been introduced as "the world's next superhero" by The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield, but his appearance was unexpectedly pulled from the show.

According to reports, Garfield was a no-show for the event.

Natalie Scott, Miles' mother, told the International Business Times that the family was invited by the Academy and traveled from North California to Los Angeles for what was supposed to be Miles' "big day."

"I don't know if they ran out of time, of if there was something about the segment they didn't like," Scott said. "It got pulled so quickly that we didn't have a lot of insight into what was going on."

"Because of the fluid nature of live TV production, ultimately the segment didn't work," a spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter. "Regardless, we shared in the family's disappointment."

Last November, the Make-a Wish Foundation arranged for Miles, whose leukemia is in remission, to save San Francisco-turned-Gotham-City from several villains.

Thousands of people cheered Miles on as he fought crime.

Afterward, he received the key to the city.
