GREGG COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A Garland, Texas man was taken into custody by East Texas authorities Wednesday after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of a large amount of marijuana in his vehicle.

The Gregg County Sheriff's Office say 30-year-old Jonathan Dewayne Anderson was stopped around 4:20 p.m. after his Chrysler PT Cruiser was spotted speeding down Interstate 20. When a deputy approached the vehicle, a strong odor of marijuana was detected.

Upon searching the vehicle, the deputy located approximately 28 pounds of marijuana with a street value of around $20,000. Two loaded hand guns were also located inside the car.

Anderson was arrested for possession of marijuana over five pounds and less than 500 pounds. He was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

On Thursday, Anderson remained in the Gregg County Jail. His bond has been set at $60,000.
