NCAA DIII tournament field announced

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Committee on Monday announced the field of 64 teams for the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.

The UT Tyler women's basketball team will open the Division III Championships against Maryville College in Memphis.  Rhodes (24-3) will serve as the host school for the first two rounds, and will take on Spalding (16-10) in the opening round.

UT Tyler (25-3) will open play on Friday, March 7 against Maryville College from Tennessee. The Lady Scots are coming off a 64-50 loss to Ferrum in the USA South Conference championship final.

Maryville features USA South Player of the Year Mackenzie Puckett who is averaging 15.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Host Rhodes College is a familiar opponent for the Patriots, as the Lynx defeated UT Tyler 80-70 earlier this season in Tyler.

Spalding College is coming off a 60-58 win over Webster in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Conference, earning an automatic bid into the tournament for the first time in school history.

UT Tyler also is making its first appearance in the NCAA Championships in head coach Kevin Baker's second season as head coach.
