I-20 WB in Smith County has trapped travelers since Sunday evening.
EAST TEXAS (KLTV) -
After Sunday's sleet and ice that moved through the region, East Texans are waking up to an icy mess on Monday morning.
One major problem that we are hearing about in the newsroom is Interstate 20 in Smith County. Multiple viewers have contacted us to tell us that Interstate 20 westbound is completely shut down because of stalled traffic. Many people have been stuck in their cars for 8+ hours as they wait for the traffic to get sorted out by the Department of Public Safety and TxDOT.
You can expect ice on most highways across East Texas. You should use extreme caution as you venture out onto the roadways this morning. Temperatures are not expected to rise much above freezing before noon on Monday. We may see some ice melted as the sun comes out, but roads are expected to stay fairly icy through the morning.
